The Senate will vote later this week to scrap a National Park Service rule after giving final approval Tuesday to legislation that would repeal strengthened EPA regulations on tire manufacturers.
Virginia Republican Rep. Morgan Griffith’s H.J. Res. 61 to eliminate updated hazardous air pollutant standards passed the Senate 55-45 after it cleared the House in March. The measure now goes to President Donald Trump, who is expected to sign it.
The Senate vote fell mostly along party lines. Only Democratic Sens. Tim Kaine and Mark Warner of Virginia — which has a substantial tire industry presence — joined Republicans in backing the resolution. Seven Democrats supported the measure in the House.
Lawmakers are repealing Biden-era rules through the Congressional Review Act, which allows Congress to scrap newly finalized agency action by simple majority. During debate on the tire measure, members faced off with starkly different portrayals of the rule.
